2024 Trauma Recovery Extender Benefit - Discovery Health

Which conditions are considered?

• Crime-related injury, Conditions related to a near-drowning, Poisoning, Severe anaphylactic (allergic) reaction [The condition must require a high acuity admission i.e., three days in High Care ward or three days in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) or any combination thereof. ]
• Paraplegia or quadriplegia (e.g. due to spinal cord injury)
• Internal or external head injuries, brain injury
• Severe burns (>15% Full thickness)
• Loss of limb due to trauma

The Trauma Recovery Extender Benefit (TREB) covers day-to-day healthcare expenses after certain traumatic events once discharged from hospital without using the funds in their Medical Savings Account (MSA). 

Depending on the member’s health plan, the benefit includes cover for physiotherapy and external devices such as wheelchairs and ambulation aids.

This benefit is available on all Discovery Health Medical Scheme plans. If you're not with Discovery, check with your scheme for related benefits.
